Twelve Apostles Parish is the newest parish in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. It was founded April 4, 2008, created out of the eastern half of the historic parish of Holy Trinity in Weston, MO. The administrative office for both Twelve Apostles Parish and Holy Trinity Parish is located in Weston.
The new Twelve Apostles Parish is the re-birth of a parish that existed in Platte City from 1871-1935. Old records say that Mass was celebrated in a storefront in Platte City, or outside under a canvas, starting in 1867. On August 11, 1871, a cornerstone for a frame building was laid and Catholics in Platte City erected a church called the Church of the Twelve Apostles on Atchison Hill at First and Wallingford. The parish was attended to by the pastor from Weston. Apparently, during the Great Depression, there was not the wherewithal to maintain the facility and the parish ceased functioning.
In recent years, population growth in Platte City has spurred the offering of Masses in Platte City again and led to the formation of the new parish. With the generous donation of 20 acres of land by Marge and Charlie Johnston, a Church has been built and was dedicated on May 25, 2013.
