The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, called "Extreme Unction" in the past, is a Sacrament instituted by Christ for the healing of those who are gravely ill. This Sacrament helps the person who is suffering to draw closer to Christ and his Church. If it be God's will, the Sacrament brings bodily healing as well.
Those who are gravely ill are kindly asked to notify the pastor in order to receive the Sacrament of Anointing. Those parishioners who will be going to the hospital should notify the pastor before going, if possible. Due to patient privacy laws, hospitals no longer routinely notify parishes of the presence of Catholics who require the Sacrament.
